"I learned more truly practical and useful information in this program than in my entire training as a contemplative psychotherapist.  Fantastic!”

People are more frequently reporting a troubling sense of feeling lost and confused about what to do in differing situations and scenarios, and in life in general.  If you find yourself perplexed and anxious about this sense of feeling misplaced or gone astray, shift your focus once again to the old standby of your breathing.  This reality, above all others, can immediately transport you back to the NOW and to the possibility of reconnecting with the center of your Being.  Once you have returned to the reality of your body breathing in this here and now, you can begin to investigate this sense of feeling lost and confused.  Part of finding your way is allowing yourself to feel lost.  Lost and found do go together.  They are once again partners in the dance of discovering your path through life.  Looking closely at what the experience of ‘feeling lost’ actually is frees you to find your way through it.

Dilemma of the Month: Clarity Vs. Confusion

We all want to feel we understand – our emotions, the situations that challenge us, other people’s decisions, the whole of life itself.  And, to feel we understand, we require a sense of clarity. So, when confusion arises, most of us move with great haste to get rid of it as quickly as possible.

When confusion is caused by external forces, such as disorder or chaos or disaster in the environment,  we can at least move to correct the situation, whether we understand how it came to be, or not.  However, when confusion arrives as emotional turmoil, we can feel muddled, uncertain, helpless, and disoriented, often resulting in a sense of paralysis.   When the confusion is mental, we may feel puzzled, mystified, perplexed or bewildered, and reach out to logic to help us make some sense of it all.  Regardless of the context in which it appears, or what we label the experience, almost everyone displays an aversion to confusion.  Thus, like throwing a pebble in a pond and watching the effect of that action ripple over the water, our scurrying to get rid of confusion can disrupt any clarity that might be readying itself to arise.

On the other hand, when we hold on to clarity because we can’t bear to face the possibility that we don’t really understand, we may find ourselves continually demanding a non-cluttered, unambiguous, and perpetually ordered world. Whether we call this demand for clarity a request for precision, astuteness, intellegence, brains or just plain simplicity, clarity must be free to shift and reshape itself around the situations and circumstances life brings our way. Clarity that is unable to grow and change solfidies into a concrete belief that then holds court as if it were a final truth.

Managing The Dilemma

The easiest way to manage this perceived inner tug of war between clarity and confusion is to approach it as the natural interaction between the two aspects of understanding.  In order for your understandings to continue expanding, growing, and illuminating more insights about life, they must change.  In order for them to change, they must shift.  And while they are shifting, you will experience confusion.  It may only be for moments, or it may last as long as days, weeks, months, and sometimes even years.  However, when you can perceive understanding as the interdependence of confusion and clarity, you can relax in the presence of both, knowing neither can remain as your permanent guest.  And out of this interaction between clarity and confusion will emerge a fresh understanding that can guide you to the ‘right action’ appropriate to the current moment or situation that has come your way.

1)     When your body is tired and you're feeling exhausted

2)     When you realize you're overworked and running on an empty tank

3)     When you recognize you're feeling underappreciated

Remedy:

Put your hand on your heart. . . take a deep breathe . . . and say “Tension and relaxation are the two sides of the coin of life.  I feel tense.  It’s time to relax.”  Tap lightly on your heart area . . . take a deep breathe . . . and say “Tension and relaxation are the two sides of the coin of life.  I feel tense.  It’s time to relax.”   Now visualize a quarter and notice the two sides – heads and tails – and then focus your attention on the rim – that thin edge that circles the entire circumference.  For the Marketplace Mystic, this rim is where home is.  This is where balance is.  From this place, you can allow the tension and relaxation, exhaustion and rest to each continue to show up their 50% of the time.  Once you realize the rim is also there, you can allow the tiredness to take you into rest – the overworking to take you into play – and the lack of appreciation from others to move you into loving and appreciating yourself.   Try it out and see for yourself

"The work done in this seminar should be an essential part of the 'luggage' one packs while on their spiritual journey. The tools and understandings about the duality of the world we live in and how to reconcile our need for spirit while still providing for a roof over our head are invaluable. The insights received help us run smack into the walls we build around our life issues and then help us find a way to knock them down.”

Deidre Devlin, Marketing Director Americas, Hi Tech Company
