1. Question: What is the missing link in practical spirituality?

Answer: Facticity is the missing link that connects the spiritual with the material in a deeply practical way. It teaches us how to be both divine and human in our daily life.  It provides support and guidance for the emerging modern-day mystic who lives in the marketplace and not in a monastery.

It trains you in a precise skill gleaned from the Psychology of the Mystics who teach that embracing your humanness, understanding who you are, and comprehending your place in the world will create the changes you seek in yourself and in the world around you.

Traditionally, understanding paradox is said to be the last and hardest step in spiritual awakening.  Facticity provides a way to take the last step first.  This gives you the ability to by-pass the inevitable suffering that comes with the notion that to be divine one must somehow conquer being human.

2. Question: What does Facticity mean?

Answer: Webster's defines 'facticity" as any fact that is unalterable and undeniable existing within the realm of time and space. Added to this definition is the requirement that a facticity also be universally verifiable through personal experience.

Facticity® has its roots in a Personal Growth Process created in 1985. It is based on two fundamental realities that function in our daily lives – the permanence of impermanence and the fact of duality.  Facticity® is based on the psychology of various Enlightened or Awakened minds, and has been refined over the last 20 years to produce practical applications to business, psychology, personal growth, and spirituality.

These applications forge a new relationship with ambiguity, polarities, uncertainty, and paradox itself, all basic facticities of our human experience.  This new relationship is rooted in understanding and managing The Tao (nature) of Dilemma, or the dynamics of interdependent polar pairs.

3. Question: Is Facticity really a new way of thinking or just an old idea presented in a different style?

Answer: Facticity is a different way of thinking about reality and thus perceiving life.  It changes your relationship to daily life and thus your way of moving within it.  Instead of perceiving life as a battle between good and bad, right and wrong, profit and loss, strength and weakness, ally and enemy, and a multitude of other perceived opposites to either tame, overcome, heal, or conquer, you learn to recognize the hidden harmonies of these polarities, understanding they are as much in collusion with each other as they seem to be in conflict.  This is called The Tao of Dilemma.

4. Question:  What is a Paradox?

Answer:  Paradox is usually experienced as a jolt to the brain when you are confronted with two things existing simultaneously that logically cannot do so--yet, they are. For example, hating someone you love, losing yourself to find yourself, being absent when you're present, slowing down in order to hurry up, increasing power by dispersing it, or being a total individual while a full member of the team.

Paradox is the emerging key to navigating this uncertain and complex time of creative change. From an evolutionary perspective, we are being asked to expand our very understanding of reality by recognizing Paradox as a fundamental facticity of life. We are being asked to live from inside it's sphere, and manage it with Conscious Awareness.

5. Question:  What is an Unresolvable Dilemma?

Answer:  An Unresolvable Dilemma is a different category of problem.  It cannot be permanently solved with a single fixed answer that makes the problem go away for good.

Examples of fixable dilemmas are:  Shall I have Thai or Greek for lunch?  Shall I stay with a Mac or change to a PC?  Shall I buy a Ford or a Lexus?  You gather information, compare, and choose, and the dilemma goes away.  Unresolvable Dilemmas continue to return again and again to haunt you.  Examples are:

  • Whose needs do I take care of first – my own, my partner’s or my children’s?
  • Do I trust my inner voice, or take the advice of others?
  • How do I balance my tendency toward being a workaholic with my need for rest and play?
  • How do I make peace with feeling guilty for taking care of myself, instead of the other?

A dilemma becomes unresolvable when choosing one possible option over another does not make the problem permanently disappear.  This happens because the two options are interdependent – one cannot exist without the other.  Because we don’t consciously recognize this type of dilemma, it is the kind of problem we mistakenly waste inordinate amounts of time, energy, and money trying to fix.  Unfortunately, Unresolvable Dilemma cannot be fixed.  It can only be managed.

6. Question:  What are some Unresolvable Dilemmas you say I struggle with every day?

Answer: When the two aspects of a dilemma cannot exist without the other, it is understood to be an interdependent pair whose interaction will be on-going.  This places it in the category of Unresolvable Dilemma – one that cannot be permanently fixed with a single solution that makes the problem go away for good.

7. Question:  Why is becoming aware of  polarities and how to work with them so important to me and/or my company?

Answer:  When a person or a culture is involved in the dual experience of leaving an old reality behind while simultaneously striving to create a new one, it is imperative that you be able to move with the changes. Understanding the reality of Unresolvable Dilemma and the role of interdependent polar pairs in this process will be a necessity for personal, organizational, and cultural survival and success in the next decade and beyond.

Concerns with reality have traditionally been left to philosophers and poets, scientists, mystics and visionaries. All we needed to do was follow their lead.  Today's world demands a different level of involvement from each of us, and a wisdom and maturity too often absent from our process of decision-making. Many different domains are exploring polarities and their function, resulting in a widening recognition of their importance and power in handling uncertainty, ambiguity, and complexity.

Today's problems can be seen as ear-marks of a societal breakdown, or a radical cultural transition opening the door for the next evolutionary expression of people organizing themselves together. The collapse of our cultural rules and understandings reveal our old way of organizing and relating to reality is no longer working. In a very practical sense, the ways we are living today no longer fit into our understanding of how life should be.

8. Question:  What exactly is Paradox Management?

Answer: Paradox Management is the specific skill you will develop in Facticity Training. Unlike other approaches to expanding personal consciousness.

  • It is based on the Psychology of the Mystics.
  • It offers a fast and simple six-step process that shows you how to navigate the multitude of Unresolvable Dilemmas, and the paradoxes they create, in daily life.
  • It changes the way you think and perceive both the spiritual and the material.
  • It is a compass and guide designed to help you find your way through the territory of conscious creating.
  • It frees you to by-pass the inevitable suffering that comes with the notion that to be divine one must somehow conquer being human.

Paradox Management is an evolutionary leap in thinking, re-organizing your understanding of reality, and shifting your behavior. It dramatically shifts your consciousness and your relationship with yourself and your world.  It propels you into a new territory of thinking and perceiving, well-equipped with the practical tools to survive and succeed. Read more about the crucial things to understand.

9. Question: Why do you maintain that an idea remains just an idea until it’s in my muscles?

Answer: There is a tremendous difference between a concept, idea or notion and a person's ability to live that concept, idea or notion in their actual behavior. The brain/body knows what to think and how to behave due to its neuro-physiological (brain/body) coding. Ideas without a coding (or neurological commitment) in the person's actual brain/body result in being unable to walk your talk, double messages, or behavior incongruent with words.

When a concept, idea or notion is installed in the brain/body (muscles) as an operational reality, it becomes that person's personal experience. Assuming all objections to the concept operating as a reality have been identified and handled, the person will demonstrate the congruence necessary for good communication, clear thinking, and more powerful decision making.

Most importantly, when the muscles (brain/body) have the information operational, conscious effort to produce the behavior is no longer necessary. The other-than-conscious aspects of the human system take over and produce the desired behaviors, resulting in more room for creativity, flexibility, and conscious enjoyment of the process.

10. Question: Is the Facticity work only for groups or is it for individuals as well?

Answer: Facticity is designed for both groups and individuals. People participating in a group will often desire and/or require personal support via individual work to deepen their understanding and ability to use the skills.  Likewise, people learning individually benefit greatly from participation in a group context where there is more uncertainty and complexity to work with.

11. Question: What is NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming)?

Answer: Although NLP is best known for its quick change techniques, effective communication skills, and dedication to creating choice, it is, at its core, a tool for modeling excellence. Practitioners learn to quickly, efficiently, and elegantly map an individual's subjective reality to identify and utilize relevant patterns of interaction between the brain/neurology (N), language (L), and behaviors/programming (P), such as in motivation, decision-making, creativity, and learning strategies.

The body of NLP knowledge continues to expand resulting in the discovery of more and more patterns of behavioral excellence ranging from conflict resolution to self-healing to learning. Excellence has now been modeled and taught in a variety of fields, including education, business, sports, art, psychology, and healing. A practical and useable set of attitudes and skills, NLP allows an individual or an organization, to create new choices and move beyond blocks and barriers with speed, efficiency, and elegance.  This is an absolutely essential skill for all coachs, consultants, teachers, and therapists.

12. Question: What is Ericksonian Hypnosis?

Answer: Ericksonian Hypnosis is a particular style of other-than-conscious communication based on the work of Dr. Milton Erickson.  His work is best known for its conversational tone and “permissive” style of communication with the unconscious or subconscious process.  It is known as permissive in contrast to traditional Hypnosis which is often labeled as an authoritative style of communication where you simply tell the unconscious mind what you want it to do – i.e., stop smoking now!.  Ericksonian style engages the unconscious mind in a more active positioning, asking it to engage in creativity and problem solving using its own latent capacities and abilities in order to solve the problem.    The Ericksonian approach is essential for working with approximately 40% of the population where the more authoritative style will simply backfire.  This is a much needed skill for all coaches, consultants, teachers, and therapists.
